Corey Anderson: News
When New Zealand cricketer Corey Anderson announced his retirement in 2020, he was only 30 years old. For a player who was handed the New Zealand contract at the age of 16, it did not seem like a fitting end. Anderson made headlines at a very young age. Albeit making his first-class debut in 2007, he started realizing his potential only in the 2011-12 season. A left-hander who is a more than handy medium pacer, he made his international debut in a T20I against South Africa in 2012. In the following year, he made his ODI and Test debuts as well. Anderson's announcement in international cricket came a year later when he scored a century against West Indies in just 36 balls. His innings had 14 sixes and was the fastest ODI century at the time, and is still the second-fastest in ODI history. Anderson was a very effective performer, both with bat and ball, in New Zealand's finals run in the 2015 ICC World Cup. Continuous injuries derailed Anderson's career, and his retirement announcement in 2020 came against the background of him joining the Major League Cricket T20 in the USA.
